Graduate Degree Plans and Course Sequences for College of Science and Health

Below are the course sequences and/or degree plans for graduate degrees and certificates in the College of Science and Health. These guides offer suggested course completion sequences, which may be limited by course offerings each term. Please consult the Graduate Catalog and the .

Department of Professional Counseling

  • Effective Catalog: 2026-2027
  • Total Hours in the Degree: 60

All graduate courses are offered as term courses, with two terms in each fall and spring semester and one single summer term. Course delivery in the MA in Counseling degree may take different forms or modalities across terms depending on program needs. While this advising plan represents the best approximation of the course schedule, offerings are subject to change, and there is no guarantee every course will run as indicated; classes are also subject to cancellation if enrollment is low.

Completing the Clinical Mental Health Counseling emphasis and its associated courses does not guarantee or imply graduation from a CACREP-accredited program. The counseling program is CACREP-accredited only for the St. Louis campus and Online options.

To ensure you stay on track, stick to your program plan and reach out for faculty advising well in advance of each term. Waiting until the final week before classes begin may leave you unable to register for a required class, requiring you to wait until it becomes available again.

Academic Standing, Probation and Dismissal

Maintaining strong academic performance and professional conduct is required:

  • Probation: Receiving a single grade of C places a student on academic probation.
  • Dismissal: Receiving two C grades, or a single grade of F, ZF, or WF, results in academic dismissal.
  • Conditional Students: Students on a conditional basis who receive one grade of C or lower are dismissed without the right to appeal for reinstatement, though they may apply for readmission after one calendar year.
  • Conduct Violations: Students may also be dismissed for violations of U.S. criminal codes. Any conduct detrimental to the school or other students will result in the immediate termination of Veterans' Administration educational benefits.

Licensure and Certification Requirements

It is your responsibility to research and understand the specific requirements for the state where you intend to pursue licensure or certification (such as LPC or LMHC). You can review individual state guidelines on the webpage. You must work closely with your academic advisor to ensure your individual program plan fulfills all state educational criteria.

Advising, Financial Aid and Registration Changes

If you must deviate from this credit-hour sequence, contact your faculty advisor and Financial Aid first — unapproved changes may jeopardize your financial aid or delay your graduation date, for which the student assumes full responsibility. Please check with Financial Aid and your faculty advisor before dropping any class.

Note: This advising form does not serve as a binding contract between the student and the University or Department/Program.
